Texmate Ethernet FAQ

Common questions about Ethernet connectivity on Tiger series controllers

Technical Documentation › Ethernet FAQ

Which meters have the Ethernet option?

The Ethernet option is available for all non-bargraph Tiger meters of the 320 and 380 series.

How can I connect to an Ethernet meter?

You can connect the meter to your local network or internet using a hub or switch, or connect it directly to your computer's Ethernet port. For direct connection, you need a crossover cable.

How can I set up the IP address?

Texmate uses the Lantronix XPort for Ethernet connectivity. Lantronix provides setup software called DeviceInstaller that scans your local network for XPort devices and allows you to configure the IP address and serial settings. The serial setup of the XPort must match the meter's serial setup configuration.

How do I set the meter up?

The meter must be configured in ASCII (slave) mode for serial communication with the Ethernet module. Serial parameters must match those on the Ethernet module. The recommended serial setup is 9600 Baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and no flow control.

Can I use the Texmate Development System with Ethernet?

Yes, change the connection type to TCP/IP and enter the correct IP address and port number.

Can I use the Texmate Configuration Utility with Ethernet?

Yes, when opening a new meter, set communication to either:

  • TCP/IP — for standard meter configuration
  • Passive TCP/IP — for remote administration of meters with dynamic IP addresses

How can I communicate with an Ethernet meter?

The Ethernet module sends ASCII data over a TCP/IP connection. Application software opens and connects a socket to the meter using the Texmate ASCII protocol. The meter can function as either ASCII slave or ASCII master (macro mode).
